The way the administration at Rutgers University handed the video showing extensive use of homophobic epithets shows a school in deep denial about a pervasive problem.

The lawyers for Dharun Ravi, the ex-Rutgers student convicted in the much-discussed webcam spying case will file an appeal against the judge’s ruling, despite a much-reduced (and much-criticized) greatly reduced sentence.

Last month Dharun Ravi was convicted of a hate crime and other charges in the case of the suicide of Tyler Clementi. Several gay activists were thrilled with the outcome while others criticized the verdict and claimed that Ravi is being scapegoated.

Student leaders from colleges around the country will be camping it up at Vanderbilt University in July as Campus Pride offers a program of fun and training sessions.
