Flashpoint - The Third Season

Jim Halterman READ TIME: 1 MIN.

CBS's series "Flashpoint" is a quiet little show, which is odd considering it's a police drama. Odder still is that it's a quiet hit series. At a time when television shows seem to have to make an instant splash or be vanquished to the cancellation heap, "Flashpoint" regularly creeps onto the CBS schedule (seasons 1 and 3 were shown in the summer) and does well enough in the ratings to keep coming back. And, to its credit, after watching the third season DVD, which was just released, it's also a damn good show.

The series focuses on a fictional elite tactical unit called the Strategic Response Unit (SRU) and these are the guys (and gals) you call in extreme situations like bomb threats, hostage situations and anything involving things that go boom. Like any good crime drama, "Flashpoint" has a solid cast that handles both the crime of the episode as well as the interwoven personal stories. Enrico Colantoni (Sgt. Greg Parker) leads the team along with members Amy Jo Johnson ("Jules") and sexy Hugh Dillon.

Another cool thing about the show is that actors Dillon, Johnson and Matthew Good also contribute the music to the show. The show, which is a co-production with Canadian television, also features a predominantly Canadian cast (only Johnson is American).

Bonus features on the third season DVD include a Behind The Scenes featurette, a profile of star Hugh Dillon, a set tour with Enrico Colantoni as well as the prerequisite extended and deleted scenes.
